VOA Afghan Supports Free Speech/Messaging Apps

VOA’s Afghan service was among the first to report on the Afghanistan’s government controversial decision to block the popular instant messaging services of WhatsApp and Telegram.  The proposed ban sparked widespread anger from users of the apps and criticism from civil rights groups. The coverage forced a turn-around and President Ashraf Ghani decided that there would be no ban on Whatsapp and Telegram.
